Brussels Airport to invest in a major renovation of Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel

Hotel to remain open throughout the works

In the next two years, the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel will undergo an extensive renovation. Both the interior and exterior of the hotel will be refurbished in phases, from the façade and public areas to the guest rooms. With this investment, Brussels Airport aims to enhance the guest experience and further strengthen the quality of its hotel offering. The first works already began this summer with the renovation of the building’s façade. The major structural works are scheduled to start mid 2027, with the full renovation expected to be completed by the end of 2028. During the works, the hotel will remain open.

The four-star Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel will receive a complete makeover. The project includes the renovation of the hotel's façade, along with the construction of a new glass gallery in the reception and restaurant area. This will improve the customer experience, allowing more natural light into the hotel and enlarging the current lobby area to create different hospitality zones for both hotel guests and visitors.

The guest rooms will also be fully refurbished, while the restaurant will undergo a complete renovation. The building's top floor, which currently consists of meeting rooms, will be converted into additional executive rooms. This will help meet current high occupancy levels and anticipate future demand for hotel accommodation at the airport.

The hotel's technical infrastructure will also be modernised, with a strong focus on sustainability. This will include upgrades to electrical and ventilation systems. In addition, the roof will be renovated to significantly improve the building's energy efficiency.

"The Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel has been part of the airport since its opening in 1989. Located directly opposite the terminal, it has welcomed travellers, business guests and visitors for more than 35 years. For many guests, it is the first or last stop on their journey at the airport. With this renovation, we will offer a state-of-the-art hotel facility to our guests thanks to fully refurbished, comfortable and modern rooms and a new glass gallery with enhanced dining experience, where people come together, stay, work, meet and connect,” says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport.

The renovation has been carefully planned and phased to allow the hotel to remain open while minimizing disruption to guests throughout the works. As the renovation progresses, certain areas may be temporarily closed or repurposed, with all necessary measures taken to ensure the continued operation of the hotel and maintain the best possible guest experience.

Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel opened in 1989 under the management of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Marriott International took over the operations and management in 2017. For more than 35 years, the hotel has welcomed passengers, flight crews and other guests staying at the airport. Brussels Airport Company, the airport operator, has owned the building since 2019.

Following persistent problems with the European Entry-Exit system, Brussels Airport is once again investing in additional infrastructure to reduce waiting times at border control
Brussels Airport will install eight additional border control positions at arrivals before the end of this year. Six additional e-gates will follow early 2027. With this expansion, Brussels Airport aims to reduce the long waiting times caused by the European Entry/Exit System (EES), which digitally records the entry and exit of non-European travellers and requires additional checks. Although the airport had already planned additional infrastructure ahead of the introduction of EES at the end of 2025, processing times remain too long due to the new system. Alongside additional, fully staffed infrastructure, the use of e-gates by non-Europeans and measures at European level, such as a performant registration app, remain necessary to reduce waiting times.
