8 new destinations from Brussels Airport during the winter season

Brussels Airport is expanding its network this winter season with 8 new destinations. The airport now connects directly our country with 164 passenger destinations. The airport is also strengthening the connectivity to existing destinations. The aviation winter season runs from the end of October to the end of March.

TUI fly is starting two weekly flights to Puerto Plata and thus further expands the range of flights to the Caribbean. In addition, TUI fly is offering a new weekly flight to Mombasa, a route that is combined with Zanzibar.

From February 3, Brussels Airlines will be operating 3 weekly flights to Wroclaw, a new destination for Brussels Airport. The airline is also flying four times a week to Kiev, a new destination for the airline since mid-October.

Ryanair is starting two weekly flights to Amman, a new destination, and to Marrakesh, a new destination for Ryanair. In September, Air France started operating six weekly flights to Rennes.

Three new destinations introduced in the summer season will also be operated during this winter season. Cathay Pacific is flying four times a week to Hongkong, Hainan Airlines twice a week to Shenzhen and Georgian Airways is operating 2 flights a week to Tbilisi.

Extra flights and seats

In addition to the expansion with 8 new direct connections, the network from Brussels Airport is also strengthened with extra flights and greater capacity on a number of flights.

Aeroflot is, for example, increasing its flights to Moscow with a third daily flight. ANA, All Nippon Airways, is increasing the capacity on the daily flight to Tokyo by upgrading from a Boeing 787-8 to -9 with 215 seats, which offers 46 additional seats per flight.

As of January, Etihad Airways will also be increasing the capacity on its daily flight to Abu Dhabi, by operating a Boeing 787-9 with 299 seats instead of an Airbus A330, which implies an additional 37 seats per flight. The Boeing 787-9 of ANA and Etihad are amongst the most modern and ecological aircrafts of that type and benefit from lower airport charges for these types of aircrafts.

Brussels Airport calls for further flexibility in implementation of the new European border registration system
Brussels Airport is relieved with the postponement of the registration of biometric data in the new European border registration system, the EES. Last week, waiting times at border control for non-European passengers rose to two hours at departures and more than three hours at arrivals. For departing passengers, this leads to missed flights and delays. In the past days, 600 passengers have missed their flight. The airport is therefore urging the relevant ministers to advocate at European level for further easing of the roll-out of the EES. In addition, full staffing of all border posts by the federal police and the resumption of the use of e-gates by third-country nationals as soon as possible remain crucial to ensuring acceptable waiting times.
