Brussels Airport is getting ready to welcome spring break holidaymakers

After the very busy Christmas holidays, within a few days, Brussels Airport will be welcoming thousands of passengers eager for a change of scenery. The start of the spring break will see many families flocking to Brussels Airport to fly towards European destinations, but also further, to the United States or Africa.

Even if the spring break falls 15 days later than in 2018, many holidaymakers have once again chosen Brussels Airport to seek the sun or simply to discover new horizons. In total, 75,000 passengers are expected on Friday 1 March at Brussels Airport, of which 40,000 are departing passengers. That is 3,000 more than in 2018. In total, 648,000 passengers will pass through Brussels Airport during the 10 days of holidays.

This year, for Brussels Airlines, the most popular destinations are Geneva, Berlin, Tenerife, Barcelona, Prague, Nice, and Palma de Mallorca for short-haul and New York, Tel Aviv, Dakar, Washington and Toronto for long-haul. For TUI fly, Spain still remains the favourite spring break destination for Belgians, since one TUI fly passenger out of two leaving by plane will go to Spain. Next is Egypt, which records the best growth in terms of passengers compared to the 2018 spring break. Morocco, Cape Verde and the Dominican Republic complete the top 5.

For families and everyone else

At Brussels Airport, and particularly during the school holidays, families are always welcomed with open arms. Accordingly, we reopen our ‘Family Lane’, decorated this year in a skiing theme, to facilitate the flow of families with children through screening. And, because the first day of the holidays coincides with the World Compliment Day, on this Friday, Brussels Airport will be giving away waffles and little stickers full of compliments to share.

As for shopping, Brussels Airport welcomes a new pop-up store devoted to Raidillon watches, right next to the Tintin rocket in Connector. And for those who like to be ‘pampered’, the Pimp your Beauty pop-up store, from now on in Pier A, provides massage, nail care and painting services as well as many other relaxing beauty treatments. Enough to enjoy some pleasant moments before embarking on your holidays.

As the airport will be very busy during these few days of holidays and to avoid any undue stress, we recommend that you reserve your parking space in advance on the Brussels Airport website. And for those who are coming to drop off passengers at Brussels Airport, the drop-off zone, which is available for free for 10 minutes maximum, is ideally located near the access to the motorways.

Brussels Airport expects more than 1 million passengers during the Christmas holidays. With nearly 1,060,000 passengers expected to depart and arrive (almost 3% more than last year), this is a new record for this holiday season. At the start of the holidays, on Friday 19 December, nearly 70,000 passengers are expected. They will be able to enjoy a unique Christmas concert on that day by the ‘Scaletta Choir’, the children's and youth choir of 'Scala'.
