20th edition Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon to start in the heart of the capital on 2 November

The 20th edition of the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 2 November. Last year, a record number of 18,500 runners took to the start on Place De Brouckère. The organisers expect even more entries this year. A very attractive city course again awaits participants, with a majestic finish on Place des Palais. Registration is now open.

This year, the Brussels Airport Marathon is in its 20th edition. Participants on 2 November will have a choice of three distances. In addition to the marathon and half marathon, a 7 km course will also be laid out.

The marathon course is largely the same as that of 2024. The runners will start at Place De Brouckère and finish at Place des Palais, in the heart of the European capital. It passes through ten Brussels municipalities. The Basilica of Koekelberg, the Castle of Laeken and the Atomium are some of the most famous landmarks on the route. Along the way, participants will also get to run a lap on the track of the King Baudouin Stadium.

The Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon has a distinctly international character. At the 2024 edition, 44% of participants had a nationality other than Belgian. Runners from more than 100 countries appeared at the start, with France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain as the best represented countries. This international touch totally fits Brussels’ DNA, the event and partner Brussels Airport.

“We are proud to once again be the partner of the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon, a unique event that brings together thousands of runners from all corners of the world in the heart of Europe. This sporting voyage of discovery through the streets and past the tourist attractions of our capital underlines the unifying power of sport, just as Brussels Airport connects people and communities every day. An event that is therefore fully in line with the values of Brussels Airport,” says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport.

Thomas Huyberechts of organiser Golazo: “After last year's highly successful edition, we expect the Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon to continue its momentum and once again see a considerate growth in the number of participants. Moreover, running is booming worldwide. What is striking is that globally it is mainly the half marathon distance that is growing the strongest. This is a trend we have also seen for several editions in Brussels. Everything indicates that this trend will continue on 2 November.”

Brussels Airport calls for further flexibility in implementation of the new European border registration system
Brussels Airport is relieved with the postponement of the registration of biometric data in the new European border registration system, the EES. Last week, waiting times at border control for non-European passengers rose to two hours at departures and more than three hours at arrivals. For departing passengers, this leads to missed flights and delays. In the past days, 600 passengers have missed their flight. The airport is therefore urging the relevant ministers to advocate at European level for further easing of the roll-out of the EES. In addition, full staffing of all border posts by the federal police and the resumption of the use of e-gates by third-country nationals as soon as possible remain crucial to ensuring acceptable waiting times.
