1.2 million passengers at Brussels Airport during the Easter holidays

The Easter holidays start on Friday, and they promise to be buzzing at Brussels Airport. The airport expects no fewer than 1.2 million passengers. Like every year, sunny resorts and city trips in Europe are popular, but destinations further afield, such as the United States and Asia, are also in demand.

For the Flemish schools, the Easter holidays run from Friday 4 April to Sunday 20 April. Brussels Airport expects to see at least 1.2 million passengers during that period. Which means an increase of almost 100,000 compared with Easter last year. On Friday 4 April, the start of the holidays, the airport will welcome around 74,000 travellers. The busiest day will be Friday 18 April, towards the end of the holidays. On that day, Brussels Airport expects as many as 77,500 passengers, including around 40,000 arrivals. The French-speaking schools don’t take the two-week break until 25 April.

From new shops to the friendly bar in the terminal

Every year around Easter, the airport is given a fresh and colourful spring look. Moreover, passengers will discover several new features in the terminal. The new concept store “The Wave” opened in Pier A at the beginning of March, introducing travellers to Belgian design from three promising brands: Clio, Colorush and June 21 Jewelry. Also recently opened in the same pier is the new shop from the popular American lingerie brand, Victoria’s Secret. From the Easter holidays, passengers waiting for their flight in Pier A can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat in Bar Festiv, where they will have the chance of winning tickets for the summer festivals. Lastly, in Pier B, close to Gate B09, a new animal relief area was opened, so that even your faithful four-legged friends can start their journey in comfort.

With around 180 direct connections, travellers have a wide range of options during Easter, among which they are sure to find their ideal destination. City trips in Europe and to sun destinations are very popular during this time, as well as trips to the US and Asia.

Five tips for a smooth journey

For a smooth start to the holiday, Brussels Airport advises travellers to keep the following advice in mind:

1) Arrive at the airport in time, check the website for personalised advice.

2) Download the app and get all the latest info about your flight, such as check-in desk and gate number.

3) Come to the airport by public transport or reserve a parking space for your car online.

4) Be mindful of the restrictions for liquids in your hand baggage. Fill your empty water bottle after security screening.
