Brussels Airport welcomes over 2.2 million passengers in June, an increase of 4%
Cargo volumes grow by 18% to 63,000 tonnes
In June, 2.2 million passengers passed through Brussels Airport, a 4% increase compared to June 2024. In the first half of the year, Brussels Airport already welcomed more than 11 million passengers. The five national trade union actions between January and June had a severe impact on airport operations, with more than 230,000 passengers whose flights were cancelled as a result. Freight volumes recorded a 18% growth totalling 63,000 tonnes.
Passenger numbers: +4% compared to 2024
2,179,180 passengers travelled via Brussels Airport in June, an increase of 4% compared to the same month last year. However, this increase could have been even greater without the national trade union action on June 25, due to which no passenger flights could depart. With the start of the summer holidays at the end of the month, departing passengers slightly outnumber arriving passengers.
In the first half of 2025, Brussels Airport welcomed 11,283,904 passengers, a number also influenced by the various national demonstrations. Since the beginning of the year, five national trade union actions have taken place, targeting the federal government's plans, with an impact on airport operations. In total, more than 230,000 travellers were affected.
Transfer passengers accounted for around 15% of all departing passengers, mainly on routes to and from Africa and North America.
In June, the 10 most visited countries were, in order: Spain, Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Germany, Portugal, Morocco, France, United States, and Switzerland.
Total cargo volumes: +18% compared to June 2024
Total cargo volumes through Brussels Airport increased by 18% in June compared to the same month last year, reaching 63,200 tonnes. The total amount of flown cargo rose by 25.5%, reaching 55,601 tonnes.
The full-freighter segment increased by 46%, belly cargo rose by 4%. Integrator services recorded a strong 27.4% increase compared to June 2024. Trucked cargo volumes decreased by 18.4%.
The main import regions were Asia, Africa, and North America. We also see the same top three in the main export regions: Asia, followed by Africa and North America.
During the first half of 2025, total cargo volumes increased by 9.4% compared to the same period in 2024.
Flight movements: +5% compared to June 2024
In June, the number of flight movements rose by 5% compared to the same period last year. The number of passenger flights increased by 3%, while cargo flights grew by 11% due to growth in the full-freighter segment and integrator services.
The average number of passengers per flight was 147, two more than in the same period last year.
