Singapore Airlines and Brussels Airport celebrate the launch of direct flights between Belgium and Singapore

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has returned to the Belgian market with the launch of direct flights between Brussels and Singapore. The long-awaited inaugural flight, SQ303, departed today, April 6, at 12:10 PM from Brussels Airport to Singapore Changi Airport. An important addition to Brussels Airport's intercontinental network and a major milestone for Singapore Airlines as it reconnects the Belgian capital with Singapore after more than 20 years.

​With an inauguration and a water salute, the first Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight for the new service departed from Brussels Airport for Singapore today. After a 20-year absence, SIA is reconnecting the heart of Europe with this metropolis in Asia. The addition of Brussels increases the number of European gateways in SIA's network to 13, reflecting the airline's commitment to improving connectivity for its customers and offering more choices.

The launch event at Brussels Airport was attended by prominent representatives, including the Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, Mr. Lim Hong Huai, as well as Singapore Airlines Acting Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Mr. Dai Hao Yu.
​"Brussels is an important European economic and political center, and the launch of this service adds another historical and charming city to SIA’s list of destinations. It also gives our customers who are travelling from Europe an additional point to connect to Singapore, as well as the wider Asia-Pacific region via our hub at Changi Airport. SIA will continue to review its network and find opportunities to offer more options for our customers," says Dai Hao Yu.

As a key gateway to Asia, Singapore is an important new destination in our growing Asian network. SIA is strongly committed to passenger experience, as well as sustainability, and will operate flights with the long-haul version of the Airbus A350-900, one of the most energy-efficient and quietest aircraft in its category."

Singapore is also an important destination for the Belgian export economy. Currently, about 9% of Belgian exports go to Asia. The direct flight will not only serve the many Belgian companies and the large Belgian community already present in Singapore, but it is also a new inspiring destination for vacationers and a gateway to Southeast Asia. The city-state of Singapore is known for its various green parks, the diversity in its neighborhoods, its gastronomy, luxurious shopping streets, excellent public transport, and family-friendly attractions.

​Singapore Airlines will operate four weekly flights between Brussels Airport and Singapore. The flights are operated with the long-haul variant of the Airbus A350-900 aircraft, providing SIA passengers with a world-class travel experience. With 253 seats in three cabin classes, including 42 seats in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy Class, and 187 in Economy Class, passengers can experience the award-winning cabin products and the unparalleled hospitality of SIA's cabin crew.

Brussels Airport expects over 1 million passengers during the Christmas break
Brussels Airport expects more than 1 million passengers during the Christmas holidays. With nearly 1,060,000 passengers expected to depart and arrive (almost 3% more than last year), this is a new record for this holiday season. At the start of the holidays, on Friday 19 December, nearly 70,000 passengers are expected. They will be able to enjoy a unique Christmas concert on that day by the ‘Scaletta Choir’, the children's and youth choir of 'Scala'.
