Brussels Airport celebrates aviation enthusiasts during its 8th Spotters' Day

Eagerly awaited by many aviation enthusiasts, the eighth edition of ‘Spotters’ Day’ was held this Monday, August 11 at Brussels Airport. Twenty aircraft enthusiasts had the opportunity to experience an unforgettable day, punctuated by unique photo shots on the tarmac, a technical visit to Brussels Airlines and a visit to the nearby BruMil military airport, where they were able to admire up close the A400M model parked on the apron.

Following a competition that brought together more than 165 participants, twenty spotters were invited to dive into the heart of Brussels Airport's activities. Safely escorted to a reserved area near the runways, they were able to photograph their favourite planes taking off and landing, and capture the passage of several aircraft with special liveries, including ITA Airways’ “Born In 2021”, airBaltic’s “Lithuanian Flag” and d’Icelandair’s “Bucketlist Xperiences”.

The day continued with a tour of the Brussels Airlines facilities, giving participants the opportunity to get up close to several aircraft and learn more about their maintenance. The day concluded at the nearby BruMil military site, where the spotters were given a close-up viewing of the A400M model, an aircraft that always arouses great admiration.

For years, Brussels Airport has attracted enthusiasts, sometimes from abroad, attracted by the diversity of the airlines present (more than 70), the many different types of aircraft and their special liveries. To best accommodate them, two observation platforms were set up in 2018, offering a breathtaking view of the runways and allowing spotters to take in the airport's activity in complete safety.

With this 8th edition of Spotters' Day, Brussels Airport wishes to thank those enthusiasts who, through their photos and passion, contribute to promoting the airport far beyond the confines of its terminal.

Brussels Airport calls for further flexibility in implementation of the new European border registration system
Brussels Airport is relieved with the postponement of the registration of biometric data in the new European border registration system, the EES. Last week, waiting times at border control for non-European passengers rose to two hours at departures and more than three hours at arrivals. For departing passengers, this leads to missed flights and delays. In the past days, 600 passengers have missed their flight. The airport is therefore urging the relevant ministers to advocate at European level for further easing of the roll-out of the EES. In addition, full staffing of all border posts by the federal police and the resumption of the use of e-gates by third-country nationals as soon as possible remain crucial to ensuring acceptable waiting times.
