The Chinese carrier Sichuan Airlines Cargo will operate full freight flights

By the end of April, the Chinese carrier Sichuan Airlines Cargo, active in a country well-known for its e-commerce, will strengthen the cargo network operated at Brussels Airport. With 732,000 tonnes of cargo in 2018, Brussels Airport has become one of the major hubs. Its strategic location at the heart of Europe and its ideal connections with the highway network are key elements in attracting new partners.

Starting in April, the cargo zone at Brussels Airport welcomes a new airline: Sichuan Airlines Cargo. The Chinese airline is based at Chengdu Airport, and has chosen Brussels Airport as its first full-cargo destination in Europe.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sichuan Airlines Cargo to Brussels Airport,” says Arnaud Feist, the CEO of Brussels Airport Company. “In addition to being our first Chinese full-freighter airline, it will provide us with a direct link to Chengdu Airport, which has been chosen as the new hub for SF Express, one of the main e-commerce operators in China. Sichuan Airlines strengthens our network in the centre of China, and also supports our medium to long term e-commerce strategy.”

Sichuan Airlines Cargo has recently expanded its fleet with several A330F, a new-generation cargo aircraft. Sichuan Airlines Cargo intends to begin its operations by the end of April with three flights a week, to be gradually increased to six by 2020.

After welcoming three new full-freighter airlines in 2018, Brussels Airport is starting off 2019 in a great way with the arrival of Sichuan Airlines Cargo, whose presence is bound to attract other companies over the following months, strengthening Brussels Airport’s position as a logistics hub.
