Work starts on new drop-off zone at Brussels Airport
Preparatory work has begun at Brussels Airport for the construction of a new drop-off zone behind the Sheraton hotel. The new zone will be located at the same level of the departure hall, ensuring a smoother connection to the terminal. Access to this zone will be separated from other traffic flows to improve circulation. The new drop-off zone will be ready by the beginning of October 2026. In the meantime, the current drop-off zone next to car park P1 will remain accessible. The construction of the new drop-off zone marks the first step in the larger infrastructure project Hub 3.0, announced by Brussels Airport in April.
On 8 September, Brussels Airport began preparatory works for its new drop-off area, which will be located behind the Sheraton hotel at the departures hall level. This improved location will offer a smoother and more pleasant connection to the terminal, which will enhance passenger experience. The new drop-off zone will also be larger than the current one and is designed to accommodate the growing number of passengers in the coming years. There will also be a dedicated assistance point for passengers with reduced mobility. The new drop-off zone is expected to be ready by the beginning of October 2026. Until then, the current drop-off zone next to car park P1 will remain operational. During the works, the public car parks P1, P2, and P3 will also remain accessible.
New access road ensures smooth traffic flow towards drop-off zone
In the initial phase of the works, a junction will be constructed on the A201, connecting the Brussels Ring Road to the airport. The exit will provide direct access to the future drop-off zone, keeping it separate from other traffic so that it flows more smoothly. From there, a bridge will link the access road directly to the new drop-off zone located behind the Sheraton Hotel at terminal level. The zone will also be attractively landscaped with plants and seating areas so passengers can begin their journey in comfort.
Like the current drop-off area, the new zone is intended for short goodbyes only. Anyone picking up passengers from the airport can make use of car parks P1, P2, or P3. The new drop-off zone will be operated by Interparking.
New drop-off marks first phase of Hub 3.0 development
The new drop-off zone marks the initial phase of the large-scale infrastructure project Hub 3.0, introduced in April. Once the new drop-off zone is operational, the current drop-off area, built in 2016, will make way for the construction of an intermodal hub where train, tram, and bus services will converge in the future.
In addition to the new drop-off zone and intermodal hub, the Hub 3.0 project also includes an extension of the departure and arrival halls, a new hotel, and a green boulevard with a park. The entire project should be completed by 2032 at the latest.
